On a recent quick break, I checked into the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre, Johannesburg, OR Tambo for a one-night staycation. Located just a short drive from OR Tambo International Airport, the hotel is designed with both business and leisure travellers in mind, making it a great spot for a quick recharge close to the city.
Dinner at Avenue Restaurant
For dinner, I headed to Avenue Restaurant, the hotel’s main dining space. The menu is varied, with South African-inspired dishes alongside international favourites, making it easy to find something comforting after check-in.
The relaxed atmosphere made it a nice way to unwind, and the convenience of having a full-service restaurant on site is a big plus especially for a short stay where you don’t want to venture far.
A Relaxed Morning Breakfast
The next morning began with breakfast at Avenue. The spread included everything from fresh fruit and pastries to hot dishes. Whether you’re heading to the airport, a meeting, or simply easing into a slow morning on your staycation, the breakfast selection makes for a satisfying start to the day.
Facilities & Spaces
Radisson OR Tambo blends work and leisure, which is part of its bleisure hotel identity. The Executive Business Lounge offers snacks and drinks throughout the day and keeps a professional, quiet environment (children aren’t permitted here, helping maintain that atmosphere).
The hotel also has a pool and spa facilities. While the pool was closed for renovation during my stay, the spa and wellness options remain a highlight for travellers who want more than just an overnight stop.
Things to Note
As with many hotels in South Africa, a generator runs during loadshedding. While it’s great to have uninterrupted power, I did notice the sound was a bit disruptive at night. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but worth knowing if you’re a light sleeper.
Final Thoughts
Overall, my one-night stay at Radisson OR Tambo was a convenient and comfortable mini escape. For those looking for a staycation in Johannesburg, or for travellers needing a place to recharge before or after a flight, the hotel offers a balance of accessibility, dining, and bleisure-friendly spaces.
It’s a reminder that sometimes the best way to reset is just around the corner without even leaving the city.
