Uber Eats turns 5

It’s been 5 years of Uber Eats in South Africa! I don’t know about you but I can’t imagine life before Uber Eats. It’s been such a game-changer for me especially since starting a new job and not having time to make dinner most nights.

Let’s not forget how it’s gotten me through the pandemic as it helped me support all my favourite restaurants without having to leave the house. And with all the awesome 2 for 1 deals, it’s also been a great way to order out without breaking the bank. I can’t imagine what 2020 and 2021 would have been like without the app.

Some of the awesome Uber Eats features:

  • Schedule orders: You can schedule an order anytime up to an hour before the desired delivery window–and as far as a week out.

  • Essentials: You can now order all of your essentials from participating stores including groceries and toiletries to ensure that you get all that you need to stay safe while at home.

  • Customise the drop-off: Whether you’re at home, at the office or even relaxing with your family at the park, you can enter even more specific instructions and request to “meet your food at the curb,” or have your food “delivered to the door.”

  • Track your order: watch in real-time as your food is prepared, picked up, and delivered to you.

  • Personalised recommendations: When you open Uber Eats you should be able to find what you want with ease. Uber Eats uses machine learning to help surface recommendations like your go-tos, less than 30 minute delivery options, and popular options near you based on past orders and details like time of day and delivery location.

  • Filter for the right food: Exploring should be just as easy. That is why you can also look up restaurants according to specific criteria like speed, price, and dietary constraints.

  • In-app Chat: The in-app chat feature is about improving the ability to multitask with daily activities, enabling you to effectively switch between tabs without losing access to Uber Eats.

  • Utensil Opt-In Option: Uber Eats is committed to creating a sustainably-conscious app, that encourages the positive upkeep of the environment around us. The new Utensil Opt-In option, will now prompt. Eaters to request for cutlery, as this will no longer be a served-standard.

  • Allergens Update: Uber Eats understands the fear of having a food allergy that could be potentially dangerous to your health, that’s why they’re excited to have introduced allergy-friendly filters, a new feature to make it easier for people with allergies or dietary restrictions to order with Uber Eats.

  • Uber Pass: For anyone relying on Uber to move around their city or deliver local favorites to their door this monthly plan at R99.99 is designed to help you unlock savings if and whenever you ride.

  • Contactless delivery: Uber has introduced a contactless- delivery option which allows eaters to request that there meals be “left at the door” for a no-contact delivery.

  • Share this delivery: Uber has introduced a feature that allows users to send food to friends and share the delivery tracking details easily so the recipient can follow along.

My Favourite Things To Order Off Uber Eats:

Shwarma Lama, Bryanston! Absolutely love Mediterranean Chicken Shawarma.

Taste Punjabi! When I’m missing home I grab a Chicken Bunny Chow from here.

Kauai! Since starting gym last month, I’ve been living for my smoothies from Kauai

I’m excited for many more years of Uber Eats! What are your favourite things to order off the app?
