LIFT Has Silent Disco at 36 000 ft featuring Zolani Mahola

On Monday 16 October, Zolani Mahola, "The One Who Sings", joined LIFT to treat travellers to a surprise Silent Disco performance in the sky.

LIFT is no stranger to supporting local South African artists, as LIFT CEO Jonathan Ayache notes, “we’re on a mission to upLIFT South Africa, especially within the artistic community; the support of both local businesses and talent is important to us. By creating platforms for local talent to shine, we hope to bring a little upliftment to South Africans at the same time.

Travellers on board the 13h00 flight departing from Cape Town International Airport to Johannesburg, as well as those on board the 16h00 flight from O.R. Tambo International Airport to Cape Town, were treated to a special guest performance from the creator and singer behind LIFT’s official anthem. The anthem reflects Zolani’s sentiments about the feeling of well-being and sense of positivity that LIFT embodies. On-board passengers hear the anthem in her distinct voice and uplifting sound. The song was part of LIFT’s mission to #upLIFTsa and the many industries impacted by the pandemic soon after its launch in 2020.

Zolani recently embarked on the latest chapter of her musical journey as “The One Who Sings”, after 17 successful years with pan-African supergroup Freshlyground. Her highly anticipated solo album "Thetha Mama" was released last year to great acclaim and mapped out her new musical direction - embracing traditional Xhosa vocals, Afro-Folk tales, electronic excursions and Sacred Songs - in a bold and eclectic statement.

Since launch, LIFT, has hosted inflight performances much to the delight of their travellers. Cape Town Opera performed  on board a flight during their national tour of Mozart's, Le Nozze di Figaro. Artist Divine Mahara launched his first album at 36 000 ft with the first ever LIFT Silent Disco, and the airline even had Schalk Bezuidenhout do a comedy skit on board a LIFT flight.

“Our collaboration with Zolani Mahola for our anthem was just the start. We’re thrilled to have her back onboard for a surprise performance. Our dream is to let LIFT become a springboard for musicians, artists and entertainers around the country. From here, the sky really is the limit,” says Ayache.

LIFT continues to collaborate with renowned artists, musicians, entertainers and actors around the country. LIFT has been fundamental in supporting artists with their travel needs by taking the hassle out of travel logistics with a  dedicated team working on their bookings. By doing so, LIFT has become a springboard for artists performing at SA’s most loved festivals and concerts.
