When you think of politics you usually think of old, balding men and while this is (unfortunately) mostly true, there are tons of women that are proving to pack quite a punch! In celebration of Women's Day, I researched Forbes list of 100 Most Powerful Women to find the women in politics who are changing the world one election at a time.

Angela (age 63) is a German politician and the chancellor of Germany since 2005. She is a former research scientist with a doctorate in Physical Chemistry. Angela is pro-EU and often described as the de facto leader of the European Union. As the president of the European Council, she played a big part in the negotiations of the Treaty of Lisbon and Berlin Declaration. She has also twice been named the world's second most powerful person, behind Vladimir Putin, the best rank ever held by a woman. SLAY QUEEN!

With the recent presidential election campaign, I don't think much needs to be said about Hillary (age 69) at all. She was the 67th United States Secretary of the State from 2009 to 2013, US senator from New York from 2001 to 2009, First Lady Of The United States from 1993 to 2001 and the Democratic Party's nominee for President of the United States in 2016 (AND in an alternate world she's the president!). Interesting fact, following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., Hillary organized a two-day student strike and worked with Wellesley College's (where she majored in political science) black students to recruit more black students and faculty. She may not be THE president but Hillary, you're MY PRESIDENT.

Her name may not be as well known as the first two but boy oh boy is Janet (age 70) a real boss woman! Janet is an American economist who is also the chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. She was sworn in on February 3, 2014, under President Obama, making her the first woman to hold this position. The Federal Reserve Board has the massive responsibility of overseeing the Federal Reserve Banks as well as implementing monetary policy of the United States. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, MONEY for Janet.

Girrrrl, Michelle (age 52) is goals in every way. From her killer style to her killer ambition, this woman is the epitome of what I aspire to be in life. Michelle graduated with a BA majoring in sociology from Princeton as well as Juris Doctor (J.D) from Harvard Law School, making her the third first lady in US history to graduate with a postgraduate degree. Fun fact, according to a 2006 tax return Michelle's salary was $273,618 compared to her husband's, ex Mr Pres, $157,082. This queen be out earning her man!

And there you have it, the women who (literally) rule the world. But wait, we have one bonus women.

Boy, is she a controversial one. An unusual name to be on this list considering she's currently in JAIL (Seoul Detention centre) Nevertheless she was the 4th Most Powerful Woman in 2016 so you can be the judge of that. Ms Park was jailed on the grounds of the corruption charges that ended her nearly 4 year presidency in South Korea. If you're interested to know, the corruption charges against her were for influence peddling which is defined as "the illegal practice of using one's influence in government or connections with persons in authority to obtain favours or preferential treatment for another, usually in return for payment." (Wikipedia) I guess she represents the fact that woman can be just as corrupt as men! Too far? Nevermind.

Who is your female role model? let me know in the comments!

  2. This was so cool!! There was way more woman on here than I was expecting which was very nice to see!! Michelle is defiantly up there on my list politically!!
