WHAT UP STALKER! This week I have so much to tell you guys I figured I would dedicate a whole blog post to all the randomness. First, I had a super successful Guest Post month in May, where some amazing people wrote epic posts for the blog. I've also been contemplating making the biggest decision ever - changing the blog name! In the meantime I've been up to some fun stuff like writing a super personal blog post As you could guess, I've been on the edge of my seat with this whole Qatar - Gulf fiasco. Despite all of this, I've also found time for some Netflix and chill (Well, just Netflix minus the chill). So here you have it, everything all you stalkers wanna know summed up in one post!

As for me, well I recently finished exams and have a few adventures planned for July (winter vacay whoop whoop) so I'm going to be posting travel posts. Confession time: I've secretly always wanted to be a travel blogger/vlogger! I thought what better time to try it out then now. It's also an awesome opportunity for me to start vlogging.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Guest Post series! If you didn't read it, you can check out the posts here:-

Thank you to these awesome people, you guys are the bomb dot com!

I've been thinking of changing my blog name and having it less associated with me since I tend to write about political and controversial stuff and maybe take Freedom of Speech a little bit too far. What do you guys think? Please let me know by leaving a comment or messaging me. Also I've been thinking a lot about where I actually want to go with this blog in terms of niche (There's lots of inconsistency in my blog vs. social media accounts vs. personal interests etc.) and I decided I'm going to explore writing about different things - so expect some travel posts, product/movie/game reviews and more personal stuff (maybe?). Bare with me I really just want to figure out what I enjoy most.

In other news, I wrote a blogpost for Indira's Inner Beauty which is super personal called Dear 13 Year Old Asha.

I'm not the only one who has had an eventful last few days - have you seen all the drama on the news?! It's cray-cray. In this segment I'll give you a quick update on what's going on in the Number 1 Oscar award winning drama - politics.

On June 5, Gulf Cooperation Council (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman) members Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain announced that they would cut ties with Qatar (Ouch!). The Saudi kingdom made the announcement via its state-run Saudi Press Agency early on Monday, saying it was taking action for what it called the protection of national security.

The announcement is said to have been brought about after a supposed hack on Qatar's state-run news agency where comments by Qatar's emir, the country's leader, supporting Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah and Israel were made. What does this mean for Qatar? Qatari residents in these countries were given 2 weeks to leave and go back to Qatar. In the UAE, showing sympathy for Qatar, even via social media, is a crime punishable by a prison sentence of 3 - 15 years and a fine of no less than $136,000.

Al Jazeera as well as other websites and channels are blocked in the GCC countries. In Saudi Arabia anyone attempting to access the website are met with the message "The requested site is in violation of the systems and directives of the Ministry of Culture and Information". UAE carriers along with many other Gulf airlines, Emirates, Etihad airways and FlyDubai have cancelled all flights to Qatar. THIS SHIZZ IS CRAZY YO. Who knows what the future has in store? But one thing's for sure. Diplomatic relations in the Gulf will never be the same again.

I finished exams recently which means I've had a shit load of free time on my hands. You know what that means - NETFLIX time! Here's are some of the things I've watched lately and what I thought of them.

I managed to get my lazy ass out of bed and what better place to take it than to watch the movie all feminists have been raving about lately.

IMDb summary: Before she was Wonder Woman she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war to end all wars, discovering her full powers and true destiny.

My verdict: You would not believe how many times I said "YAAS QUEEN" during this movie. Witty writing, an interesting storyline and loads of girl power make up for a lot of lame scenes and a controvertial main actor.

SAND STORM (Original Title: SUFAT CHOL) 2016
Most people that know me know that I'm obsessed with Arabic movies. I find Arab culture so intriguing and I love that their movies give me insight into their culture.
IMDb summary: When their entire lives shatter, two Bedouin women struggle to change the unchangeable rules, each in her own individual way.

My verdict: This movie shows the contrast between patriarchy and old conservative Arab traditions, against a progressive, evolving society. The struggles that Arab women face even in this day and age is represented in such a raw and true way.

When deciding on a series to feature I just knew Dear White People was the one. I recently watched the entire series for the second time - and I might just be watching it for the third soon!
IMDb summary: At a predominantly white Ivy League college, a diverse group of students navigate various forms of racial and other types of discrimination.

My verdict: THIS IS SOUTH AFRICA. I couldn't help but contrast it to my experiences in university here in SA (Stellenbosch University and University of the Free State). It is so relatable! The things that happened in this series could have so easily happened on this side of the world. I can't recommend this series enough to university students in South Africa.
That brings us to the end of this unusual blog post. Whew. So much randomness! I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know if you want me to write more posts like this.
Go forth and slay.
